Yesterday, I heard on the news that reading a bedtime story is on the decline with a study suggesting that bedtime reading has dropped by almost a third in a generation. Although, I have to admit that I cannot remember what bedtime stories were read to me...(too long ago now!) I cannot imagine a life without books... Enid Blyton was always one of my favourite authors when I was old enough to be able to choose my own books, with visits to the book shop or local library a delight...Still is today. But, as a designer it got me thinking in this visual and technological era, it seems more important than ever that the book cover illustration / photograph grabs and holds the attention of the reader, encouraging them to pick up the book in the first place; helping children and adults alike to enjoy the delights of a world of words brought to life by our own imaginations...and the voices of the characters.
