This week I am working on a brief which inspires me to think of winding roads, twisting highways and curving race tracks... The roads we take and the discoveries we make along the way, can easily be seen as a metaphor for life... The road is rarely straight, and we never know what is just around the corner, but that is where we can often find the hidden gems, the beautiful and unexpected...
I think that's what I love about experimenting with traditional mark-making, the unexpected...the imperfect line that somehow makes it's way onto the paper. Playing in the background, as I make these abstract twisting roads and imperfect lines, is the music of Davy Knowles - a musician that I discovered by chance back in 2010. A discovery like when you're on a road and you suddenly come around the corner to see a beautiful view of the ocean or something that you were not expecting... and it just blows you away! That's how I felt when I first heard the music of Davy Knowles - his guitar playing skill and his soulful voice, melted my heart - I've been a fan ever since... You may not have heard of him, but Peter Frampton, calls him "the gunslinger guitarist of the 21st century" , whilst Joe Satriani describes him as, “My favourite Modern Bluesman”, I say hear hear to that as he’s definitely mine…! If you like Blues / Rock or even if you are not sure, please take a moment to listen…
