The Generosity Tree...

12/7/2013

On days like these, when the sun is scorching down, making the pavements crack and the ice cream sales soar, the big old trees that we see in our parks and countryside such as the Sycamore, Oak and Horse Chestnut (pictured below) generously offer us shady spots to sit and ponder...but what if a tree could offer more... well there is such a tree known as The Miracle Tree (Moringa oleifera).

Way back in March I visited an exhibition of John Newling's work at the Nottingham Contemporary, and it was here that I learned of the tree known as The Miracle Tree (Moringa oleifera)...a uniquely generous tree that grows in the foothills of the Himalayas of Northern India and in parts of Africa.  This truly amazing tree is resistant to drought and has the potential to relieve famine, with scientific research stating that the Moringa tree leaves alone have amazing nutritional value; being richer in Vitamin C than oranges, having more potassium than bananas and more protein than milk...these are just some of it's incredible properties.
