Nottingham Contemporary - Illustration

Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery is one of those places that I love to stop by whenever I get the chance to visit Nottingham.

It's such an iconic building, that when I was working on a recent illustrated map of Nottingham, it was one of the places that I just had to include. Opened back in 2009 this contemporary art space is always inspiring, I confess I don't always understand some of the work exhibited, but it is always a thought provoking experience...not only do I enjoy viewing the exhibitions, I can't leave without browsing in the gallery shop and, I usually find myself making my way down to the Ottar cafe on the ground floor, where they serve a refreshing cup of tea!

But it's not only the inside space which is interesting to me, it's the way Architects Caruso St John, placed this building in the landscape, located in the Old Lace Market side of the city amid Georgian style townhouses it definitely stands alone as a modern building, however the concrete Facade of Verdigris scalloped panels cast with a Nottingham lace pattern, help to create that sense of connection between the old and the new...

So if you get the opportunity to visit Nottingham, this is one place that I can really recommend for you to see. It's closed on Monday's though so just bear that in mind...you can find it at Weekday Cross, Nottingham NG1 2GB.
