Citrus! I don’t know about you but, for me that word makes me think of Lemons, and you might say that 2020 was a real lemon of a year! Throughout the lockdowns and uncertainty, one thing that made my year more bearable and less of a lemon was the weekly briefing challenge set by the creative image library Arcangel who represent my work.
One of the challenges we were invited to interpret late last year was around that very word - Citrus! Throughout 2020 you may have already noticed citrus fruits on homewares and giftware. As is often the case trends often start in fashion and filter down through into different areas of design including onto book covers and other media.
And although Lemons grow in other parts of the world, it got me thinking about Italy, and the Amalfi coast...but before I go all Audrey Hepburn on you...I felt the Citrus theme tied in well with the announcement made by the influential colour forecaster Pantone, who named Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Grey as it's colours of the year for 2021. With such a lovely classical combination I think we may see the jesty lemon trend continuing for a little while yet...
