Can we talk about paper for a moment...I know booorring! But please bear with me, it's important to me, and it might be to you... As in life, I try to be as sustainable as possible and I try to bring this into my art practice too, probably failing miserably much of the time...recycling my waste only for it to be burned in some other part of the world, but before I get on my soap box... back to paper! Wherever possible I try to always purchase paper that is to FSC standard, but like most artists it's fun to try different papers to see how they react; to see how the water soaks into the paper or the ink dribbles slowly across the page, there are many different types out there and some work better than others...although it's subjective I feel that some work better in certain styles than others. For me I'm becoming to realize that I like the work that I create on Hot Pressed paper the most, but there in lay my problem, which one? Then I found something with the credentials that I felt matched me, my work and my values well...its a high quality acid free archival watercolour paper - crafted in a European Paper Mill, that has been making Fine Art Papers since 1618. It creates paper in small batches using a slow process, allowing for greater quality control. It's not to say that I won't change papers in the future, but for now, I think I've found the one! So I wanted to let you know that if you purchase an piece of artwork from me, you can be assured the paper will have been sourced and made with care. Studio Playlist - I thought Benson Boone's track "Slow it Down" from the Fireworks and Rollerblades Album, worked well for the blog this week, so if you would like to have a listen please check it out here... Thank you as always for reading ...see you next week!
