Whilst doing a bit of research recently for World Bee Awareness Day, which happened earlier this week, I found out that there are more than 27 species of Bee in the UK, and around 20,000 different kinds of bees world wide! Apparently many bees are loners...but the humble bumblebee that we know here in the UK are social beings and can live in colonies of up to 400 bees. The fact that really caught my eye though was, researchers from Sussex University have decoded the "Waggle Dance", who even knew that Bees dance? Apparently, Honey bees have a dance move called the "Waggle Dance"...which they use to communicate with each other - amazing! So inspired by this fact, I created this Dad Dancing Bee character...now I know he needs some work, a little more development maybe, as he's no Disco diva - my mind was full of images of John Travolta strutting his stuff in the film 'Saturday Night Fever' along with the whole 1970's vibe of platform shoes, wide shirt lapels and of course the orangey, brown colours associated with that time as I drew this little critter. Later, when I photographed my sketchbook, the sun was casting shadows, and I felt that this humble bumble had got his own glitter ball going on. I had such fun drawing him, I hope he makes you smile too... It goes without saying that the music that came to mind just had to be the BEE gees! (sorry, couldn't help myself). Which track though? They have so many good ones... in the end, it just had to be Staying Alive as World Bee day is all about highlighting how we can take steps to help them stay alive and flourish! So with that tune in your head, it's time to strut your stuff... As always Thank you for reading and enjoy those Disco vibes!
